At Joshua Rose Shepherd Huts we are always looking at ways to improve our huts, add value and rental opportunity for our clients and make our huts stand out. Our retractable deck, a shepherds hut first, is built on top of the chassis. It glides effortlessly in and out, making it easy to stow away when not in use. With double French doors opening out onto the deck it really makes a beautiful outdoor area on which to enjoy the summer sun or a meal. Non-slip decking and oak and rope railings make it a safe and attractive outdoor area that ties in to both the hut and land. If a client wants to move his hut he has to simply remove the railings and support legs and push it back under the chassis whilst moving the hut. A lot more convenient that having to dismantle a move traditional deck area. We have copywrite on this invention and are very proud to say that our clients are thrilled with their hut and deck.

Our former PM, David Cameron, has just joined the hut club and secured himself a very beautiful Shepherds Hut in which he intends to write his memoirs. That is if he fends of his family rivals for the hut - he has said that his children want to use it as a play house and outside bedroom! David doesn’t say what his wife Samantha would like to use the hut for, a quiet garden retreat perhaps! This really demonstrates how versatile a Shepherds Hut is providing a flexible and peaceful outside space. Our first hut was commissioned by a gentleman in York who was setting up a new glamorous glamping site and so wanted a luxury Shepherds Hut for his grounds. This 20ft hut came complete with a bijou kitchen, stylish bathroom and elegant bedroom area with a day seat that converted into a double bed. Another hut was crafted for a lady in Cornwall who wanted a comfortable, tranquil space in which to practice kinesiology therapy all year round. The hut we are now crafting is a beautiful 17ft garden retreat Shepherds hut with glorious French doors, kettle top wood burning stove and converting day bed for a gentleman in Bristol who wants to simply sit and enjoy the glorious views he is surrounded by. If you are considering buying a Shepherds Hut, the first step (after googling ‘buying a shepherds hut’!), is to think about how you would like to use this beautiful outside space and where it is going to be positioned. Then find a maker that shares your vision and passion for what you want crafting! You don’t need all the answers and ideas, just as starting point. Designing and crafting a hut is an exciting process and a very special journey. We get a happy sad feeling when a hut rolls on to the crane truck and off to its new owner. You simply can’t help leaving a little bit of you inside something that you have lovingly crafted for the past 12-16 week! We will never be a big Shepherds Hut manufacturer, but will always be a small bespoke maker and we are very proud of how we craft our huts. Over the next few weeks I will be copying David Cameron and will be writing my own memoirs – the Shepherd Hut Diaries - sharing our build process from the chassis up so you can see just how a Shepherds Hut is built. I hope you enjoy reading about it. |
